After a gap of two years, the ICC World Twenty20 2016 championship takes place – touted as the single most biggest cricket event after ICC Cricket World Cup. The last edition of the tournament was won by Sri Lanka held at Dhaka in 2014.

This time, the home of cricket, India, is hosting the championship and a total of 8 venues have been selected as venues for both the league and knock-out matches. The tournament will kick-start on 3rd March next year. Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is set to host the closing ceremony of the event as well as the grand finale match of ICC World Twenty20 to be held on April 3rd, 2016. Here are the some world records:
#1 – Most Runs by any Batsman (In a Single Event): Virat Kohli (319) is the highest individual run-scorer in any single edition of World T20. He achieved the feat in the 2014 T20 World Cup played at Dhaka.
#2 – Highest Opening Stand: West Indies opening pair Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith hold the world record of 145-run partnership for the 1st wicket (against South Africa) in any T20 world cup match.
#3 –  Most Ducks in World T20 Matches: Pakistani explosive batsman Shahid Afridi holds the unwanted world record for scoring most ducks in the T20 World Cup. He got out on 0 five times in his T20 World Cup.
#4 – Batsmen with 100s in T20 World Cup Match: Only 6 batsmen got hundreds in this tournament. They are Chris Gayle (117), Ahmed Shehzad (111*), McCullum (123), Suresh Raina (101), Mahela Jayawardene (100) and Alex Hales (116*).
#5 – Highest Team Total: Sri Lanka’s 260/6 against Kenya is the highest score ever by any team in World T20 championship. Sri Lanka achieved this feat in the inaugural 2007 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup.
#6 – Most Sixes: West Indian explosive batsman Chris Gayle holds the world record for hitting most sixes (43) in all 5 editions together in this coveted T20 championship.
#7 – Singh is King (2007): In the inaugural edition of World T20 which was held in 2007, Yuvraj Singh became the only batsman to hit 6 sixes in 6 balls of Stuart Broad. This is still a world record.
#8 – Best Bowling: Sri Lankan off-spinner Ajantha Mendis accomplished an astonishing feat of 6 for 8 in a T20 World Cup match against Zimbabwe in 2012. This is the still the best bowling figure in the tournament until now.
#9 –  Fastest Fifty: Yuvraj Singh is the fastest half-century maker in the T20 World Tournament. He hit 50 in just 12 deliveries in 2007. This record is still yet to be broken.
#10 – First Hat-Trick: Aussie speedster Brett Lee was the first bowler to accomplish hat-trick in this tournament. He got three wickets in 3 balls in a match against Bangladesh in 2007 T20 World Cup.
